MotherSong is an experiential participatory project by Lehni Lamide Davies, that uses song to explore the intimate relationship between empathy and wellbeing in motherhood. It encompasses a purpose built flexible Sound-shed containing a sound installation of lullabies collected from a community of mothers of all backgrounds.
This MotherSong installation at LOFT at Croydon Arts Store is the first of an ongoing series of participatory arts residencies that will reach different communities of mothers, as it evolves and develops with each new location.
During her residency at LOFT, Lehni is inviting local Croydon-based mothers to participate and record their song for the MotherSong project. The songs offered could be a lullaby, an ancient song, a traditional song or even a song with no words. Each recorded song will be added to the collection of other songs that form the MotherSong soundscape, becoming part of an ongoing, evolving sound installation that explores the intimate relationship between empathy and wellbeing in motherhood.
